Hello Parents,  I am changing the delivery and drop-off methods for ELA and Social Studies. For those of you who picked up the red folder with assignments, you can send me a photo of the completed assignments at sbarry@telesis-academy.org, or just text me via Bloomz that the assignments were completed. I will not have drop-off and pickup bins at the school.

I will focus on Reading and Writing for the remainder of the school year. In light of that, please have your child select an Epic book on the subject Space and take an AR test. I will be sending out more assignments and fun activities once I learn to navigate through online learning.

Thank you for your support.

Using_MobyMax_From_Home_Español

Hello Families,

This has been a unique time in the world, but we hope everyone is staying safe and healthy!
Below you will find some instructions for Ms. Nash’s English, Miss Poppleton’s math & English,
and Mr. Brown’s social studies remote teaching for the next few weeks.

All courses will be run through Moby Max which can be accessed online through Tigerlinks.
All students have an account or familiarity with this program. When signing into Moby Max,
search school name – “Telesis” and choose the school (no need for a school code).

The username and password are identical to AR/Renaissance logins (i.e.: username ‘first name
last name’: johnsmith password ‘student ID’: 119123.

Attached you will find a PDF for instructions to help guide anyone through the programs. Moby
Max is tablet and mobile friendly, which will assist both students and parents in accessing
remote material.

These teachers expect students to spend 45 minutes per day, per class, four days a week. For
example, each day Monday-Thursday, students will spend 45 minutes in social studies, 45 in
English, and 45 in math (order does not matter). Students should be completing 3 hours per
week in each of these subject areas.

Specific instructions from each teacher for his or her class will be sent out via notifications on
Studentvue/Parentvue or via email. Each teacher will be assessing work on Friday and updating
the grade book based on time in the program and quality of the work. Any concerns or questions
should be directed towards the subject area teacher.

For those of you who do not have access at home to WIFI, the public library (although closed to
entry) has left their WIFI on for use in general vicinity. All things considered, please remember
that your health is of the utmost importance and to stay healthy.

Sincerely,

Ms. Nash, Miss Poppleton, and Mr. Brown

Algebra 1

Updated 3/30/20

Hello everyone and hoping this contact finds you well.

This week students will be required to complete:
Unit 2 Examp Prep / Review – MXL (to set up Study plans) 03/30 – 04/01 – completion required by 8:00 a.m.
Sections 2-1 to 2-10 Study plans 04/01 – 04/06 – completion required by 8:00 a.m.

Due to the uncertainty of what the state will require our students to allow for completion of the school year – I am hoping these reviews will allow us to be prepared for any testing that may be required. I do not feel it fair to have students try to complete new material without direct guidance but I I do not want students forgetting all they have learned nor lose their progress. So… until we know how this will work out – remind students of their current resources available should they experience any difficulties while completing the required review work:

Class notes / returned work / returned quizzes
Pearson Realize – On – Line Textbook / Vidoe of examples / Video tutorials
Math XL – Help me solve / View an example / On-line Textbook / Video Tutorials
Please let me know if you have any questions and keep studying! I look forward to seeing everyone soon!

Mrs. Walters

Prior update:

As scheduled – students have been assigned their individual Study Plans for Chapter 5-3 to 5-8 in Math XL.  These will be due and graded on 03/23 as assigned.

However, due to the extension of the break due to the Corona Virus – an additional set of study plans (for review) are being assigned in Math XL for the week of 03/23 – 03/27.  Students are to complete the following:

03/20 – 03/23 – Unit 8 Exam Prep / Review in Math Xl to set up individual study plans for 8-1 to 8-5.

03/23-03/30 – Unit 8-1 to 8-5 study plans completion will be due 03/30.

Updated 3/31/20

Hello everyone and hoping this finds you and your family safe and healthy.

At this time – since I will not be able to directly instruct students on Unit 6 information, I am forgoing this unit of study.  However, since we currently are entering into uncharted territories with end of year requirements, I will be expecting students to complete reviews of already presented material for any final testings the state may require.  Therefore, Unit 11 Exam Prep / Review is to be completed no later than Thursday, 04/02 by 10:00 a.m.  This will set up our student’s individual study plans for this chapter.  Students will then be required to complete their individual study plans for 11-1 to 11-10 no later than Monday, 04/13.

Please remind students – school is not out for the year and these requirements will be graded and applied accordingly.

I am wishing you and yours good health and safety during these rough times.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  I am working daily from home and am here to help.  Please take care and hoping to see everyone soon!

Good afternoon.  I am writing to bring you up to date for this week’s requirements for Algebra 2.

Study Plans for 2-3 to 2-8 (originally assigned 03/09) were due yesterday.  Please note this assignment was made prior to break and students were aware of this.  Unfortunately many have choosen not to complete this assignment in full.

Additionally they were to complete Unit 3 Exam Prep / Review in Math XL in order to set up their individual study plans for content review.  Students were notified of this on 03/20 as well as included in my weekly email.  Again the majority of students did not complete this.

Study Plans for 3-1 to 3-6 have been assigned for this week and are due completed Monday 03/30.

I must emphasize that our assignments are required to be completed by the dates stated.  Please make no mistake – the work being assigned by all instructors via emails and/or on-line is required just as if we were on campus and being graded.  This extension of the break is not a break from the planned curriculum and standards.  Work assigned will need to be completed and due accordingly in all courses.   I will be sending weekly progress reports home to so you may monitor your student’s assignment(s) completion.  ALSO – please make sure to login into ParentVue and/or StudentVue as always.

Please remind students they have the following resources available as always:

Pearson Realize on-line Textbook and concept videos

Math XL – View an Example; Help Me Solve This; Video Tutors; Textbook

Class Notes

I am hoping all in your families are doing well and thank you for your continued support.  I ask that you please do not hesitate in contacting me with any questions.

Hoping to see everyone soon!

Mrs. Walters

3/30/Update:

Hello everyone and hoping this communication finds you well.  In the upcoming weeks we will be completing reviews and some fine tuning of concepts explored in class.  However, I am placing students on an on-line direct instruction program called Khan Academy.  (www.khanacademy.org)

This program has tutorials led by an expert in the field of math and will allow for some in depth guidance on applications.  The system is offered at no cost, however, students will need to create their own login into the system using the following steps:

1.  Go to khanacademy.org/join

2. Enter Class Code:  PRTKUDZB (Class name is:  Walters Honors Geo 2020)

3. If the student does not already have an account, press “Create a new account”.  Enter your date of birth, then sign up using Google, your school email or by creating a user name.

4.  Enter your grade and course.

Please have login completed by Tuesday, 03/31.   I will be providing an updated Assignment List and due dates once students have completed their login.  Also note:  Our first section will be on Right Triangles and Trigonmetric Ratios and angles.  Students may want to review their notes on this subject.

Again everyone –  I am hoping all this works as planned and I appreciate your patience and continued support during this time.  Please take care and hoping to see everyone soon.

Mrs. Walters

Prior update:

While students have this time – I am assigning a review chapter in Math XL.  Could you please let your students know that the following is to be completed:

Unit 9 Exam Prep/Review in Math XL 03/16-03/20

This is required to set up your student’s individual study plans for this chapter.  All assigned study plans will be required to be completed by our return, 03/30.

In the meantime, I ask that you please contact me with any questions you may have.  Also – I am hoping everyone remains well and you have the best break possible.

Governor Ducey, Superintendent Hoffman Announce Extension Of School Closures Through End Of School Year

News Release

March 30, 2020

PHOENIX — Governor Doug Ducey and Superintendent of Public Instruction Kathy Hoffman today announced the extension of Arizona school closures through the end of the school year. The extension follows updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and an announcement from the White House extending physical distancing guidelines until April 30, 2020.

Governor Ducey and Superintendent Hoffman released the following joint statement:

“In alignment with yesterday’s updated federal guidance, today we are announcing the extension of school closures through the remainder of the school year. Today’s announcement is intended to give parents and educators as much certainty as possible so they can plan and make decisions. While this isn’t the outcome any of us wanted, we are grateful for the partnership of schools around the state, who have stepped up to offer virtual and take-home learning opportunities for our students. These efforts are crucial, and we recognize that schools are making every effort possible to continue providing instruction during closures. We also thank our legislative partners for passing legislation ensuring all educators and staff see no disruption in pay. Our number one priority will continue to be health and safety, and we will continue to work closely with public health officials to make the best decisions for kids, families, and our school communities.”

On March 27, Governor Ducey signed legislation to support schools during closures, ensure school letter grades are held harmless, suspend statewide testing requirements, ensure school days are not extended into the summer, require learning opportunities for students to continue, and ensure teachers and staff see no disruption in pay as a result of COVID-19.

That same week, the Governor joined Superintendent Hoffman to launch Arizona Enrichment Centers, which will offer childcare for first responders, critical healthcare workers, and essential public sector workers, including child safety workers.

Additional information about meals for kids, childcare, special education considerations, learning resources for families and educators and more can be found at azed.gov.

Today’s announcement applies to Arizona public schools, both district and charter. Private schools are required to remain closed in alignment with federal guidance recommending closures through at least April 30, 2020. School leaders have the option of announcing closures through the end of the year, or waiting for additional guidance.

Telesis Parents, Guardians, and Students,

Teachers have worked extremely hard to create various electronic platforms to continue our students’, your children’s, education during this school closure period. Teachers will contact you electronically, some already have, with academic instructions for our student(s), your children. If for some reason that does not work for you and your household, please let us know and we will see if an alternative method of delivery of information and assignments can be arranged.

Teachers will be essentially working from home at their home computers and not necessarily at school each day.

Please continue to check your email, ParentVue, and StudentVue.  We are working to complete the “At Home Assignments Hub”  as well,  so please check this page often.

I am so very proud of our teaching staff and support staff for their diligence in a very short period of time to make this solution to a gargantuan challenge about to transpire.

Sincerely,

Dr. Sandy Breece

Telesis Parents and Guardians,

As you know, the State of Arizona has required all public schools to close for a period of time to allow coronavirus to subside. As a public school, Telesis will be closed through April 10.

Please watch for contact from your child’s teachers through email, ParentVue, and StudentVue.

Wishing for you and your family the very best of health as we all do our best with the challenge before us.

Sincerely,
Dr. Sandy Breece
