Q. What motivated you to become a teacher?

A. I always loved playing “school” when I was little.  I also had some really good teachers growing up. I like kids! I like to teach kids to read and to see their growth.  It’s really cool to see where they start and where they are when they finish the year.

Q. How does the teaching profession give back when teachers give so much to their profession?

A.The kids.  It’s just really cool to see a kid grow – to see their K-12 growth.  You know, being able to watch them from when they start out in your class learning their letters, then learning to read, and all the way until they graduate. Some of my students from my first year of teaching are starting 11th grade – they are going to be graduating soon!

Q. Is there something that you want your students to take away from your class?

A. Just that school is fun. Yes, you’re here to learn, but you learn other things along the way. You’re making friends — there is the whole social part of it, too.

Q. Who inspires you? Why?

A. My mom.  She was a really good mom and she inspires me.

Q. Have any of your past students kept in touch?

A.Yes, I recently saw one of my former students who just went through the public speaking program, AVID.  She is a very good little public speaker for a middle schooler.  Her parents keep in touch and I still have a very good rapport with other past students and their families.

Q. What is your favorite thing about teaching at Telesis?

A. There are a lot of really good things – I like this school! The small class sizes are super awesome.  I feel like I have a better relationship with families and students because we have the Telesis Triangle, which is really helpful because I have that connection to everybody.

Q. What is your favorite lesson to teach?

A.My favorite lesson to teach is on letter sounds.  We do a lot of songs that incorporate American Sign Language and movement.

Q. What can you tell us about kindergartners?

A.They are entertaining and there really is never a dull moment. They keep me on my toes and I am never bored.

Q. What kind of kudos have you received from parents?

A. (Mrs. Miller shared some of her favorite letters that parents have written to her.)

Notes from parents:

“We are so happy! She likes this school a lot and she is smiling when she comes home.”

“She just loves you!”

“Thank you for the nice comments! She really is enjoying kinder. You are a great teacher. Thank you for loving your job!”

“We absolutely love the affirmation bag. She loves hearing that her kindness is making a difference!  She keeps telling me when she groups up, she wants to be a teacher just like you! Awesome!”

“Thank you, you’re so awesome. If not for you, I’d be lost! You have helped my son achieve so many goals. We’re so thankful for you!”

Q. Is there anything else you’d like to add?

A. Just that Telesis has really helped me to get to where I want to be – like with my Master’s.  Dr. Breece was a really big help when I went back to get my Educational Leadership degree.
